✨ Motivation Monday – Part 2 of the Mini-Series (Experiences from Morocco)

What happens when preparation isn’t enough?

On our second day in Morocco, reality hit us – and it hit hard.

The landscape was stunningly green, but what we experienced had nothing to do with Instagram romance.

We cycled through villages where trash lined the roadsides.

Dead animals – dogs, cats, chickens – lay visibly by the roadside.

From the butcher shops, meat was hanging... you can imagine... right out onto the street.

Children threw stones at us, adults watched us with suspicion.

The traffic was loud, the alleys were narrow, and the mud from the day before still clung to us – in our hair, our socks, everywhere.

We were exhausted – physically and mentally.

A hotel? Nowhere in sight – and all of this in a region that, as locals later told us, receives little support from the king.

Then – a moment of relief:

A shepherd silently approached and pointed to a small spot under a tree, deep in an old riverbed.

“Cyclists slept here two days ago,” he said.

We nodded, said thank you – and felt nothing but relief.

💡 My takeaway for work life:

We thought we were well prepared.

But no travel guide, no blog post had prepared us for our “own culture shock.”

In business, it’s often the same: You think you’re ready – for new markets, new teams, new clients.

But the true dynamics only reveal themselves in real-life contact, on the ground.

Only those who are willing to look behind the first facade and endure the discomfort can truly learn and grow.

Preparation is important – but openness to the unexpected is essential.

📣 When was the last time a situation completely overwhelmed you – professionally or personally – and what did you learn from it?

I’d love to hear your perspective!
